Séminaire de Jenifer Saffi : "Clinical Relevance of DNA Repair Modulation in Colorectal Cancer"

"Clinical Relevance of DNA Repair Modulation in Colorectal Cancer"

Presentation: Jenifer Saffi will present the latest results from her lab on DNA repair imbalance, it’s link to tumor aggressiveness and how it modulates chemotherapy response in sporadic colorectal cancer. DNA repair mechanisms, such as base excision repair (BER) and mismatch repair (MMR), may not only influence tumour characteristics and prognosis but also dictate chemotherapy response. Defective MMR contributes to chemoresistance in colorectal cancer. Moreover, BER affects cellular survival by repairing genotoxic base damage in a process that itself can disrupt metabolism. Jenifer Saffi will present the association of BER and MMR with protein expression, pathology and clinical features, and their relevance to chemotherapy response, based on tumour samples and cellular models.

Biography sketch:  Jenifer Saffi is expert in Genetic Toxicology. Her main research area is DNA repair and mutagenesis in eukaryotic cells, focusing on the involvement of the DNA repair mechanisms in the cytotoxicity of antitumor drugs and DNA damage response in cancer.

Jenifer Saffi is an associate professor tenure of the Basic Health Sciences Department at the Universidade Federal de Ciências da Saúde de Porto Alegre (UFCSPA) (2009), where she coordinates the Genetic Toxicology Lab. She holds a Ph.D (1999) from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul and Post-Doc at the “Institut de Cancérologie Gustave Roussy” in Villejuif – France. She is a CNPq Productivity Researcher (1C), consultant of several Brazilian funding agencies such as CAPES, CNPq and FAPERGS.  She has been a member of the National Committee of Biosafety (CTNBio – Brazil) since 2014. She has more than 100 published papers.

Le séminaire sera également retransmis en Zoom.
